Top 10 Male Characters of 2009

Thursday, 31 December, 2009

Too cute a picture not to use at one point in time, so I’m using it now.

A reminder that my list is of animes that started in 2009, so shows like Clannad After Story or Toradora don’t make the list because they started in fall of 2008 even if they did end in 2009.

Top 10 Female Characters of 2009

Tuesday, 29 December, 2009

Fuko is sadly not on this list….

Okay well it’s here again! My list of top 10 female characters of 2009. My requirements are only that the series has to have started airing in 2009, so Toradara and Clannad After Story won’t make this list or any other of my end of the year posts at that. Most of the images are giant, so just click to enlarge if you want to see the whole thing.

So on to the list! Read the rest of this entry »

Umineko no Naku Koro ni episode 4

They so plan on cheating for this series! The moment I saw them kill Kanon off, I knew our characters could not be really dead or at least not dead for long and then I heard Maria mention that on the last day nobody is alive, but at the same time we’ll be seeing the deceased again soon. Which is a pretty contradictory sentence if you think about it. Read the rest of this entry »

Episode 2

The second episode continues to show promise and finally we get some violence (I sound morbid)! I have to say, I was pretty impressed that they killed off six characters in one episode, especially since there is only 18 characters in total that we know of at least. Out of the 6 characters that died, I really cannot think who any of them were since this really is only the second episode. In terms of names, I only know that Gohda, Rudolf and Shannon died. The rest I’m pretty much drawing a blank to their existence. Shannon was the only one who actually made an impact for me because all you saw was her bloody arm and the ring worn on her finger that George gave to her, which I think was done quite well as an overall scene.

Much like the first episode, a lot of information was given. From what I read on other bloggers’ blogs who have read some of the manga, the series is moving relatively quickly. I can see how that can be true given that there was a lot of dialogue, the only really important information I would say is the part that suggests that there is no Beatrice or “nineteenth member” like we are made to believe. In this episode alone I can say that although I would absolutely love the idea that it has to be one of the 18 members who is the killer, I find it hard to believe because Beatrice is already almost a sort of iconic character. I don’t see why the creator would give so much information to a character that does not even exist. Well luckily this is one of those series that has a long mystery to it that will always be an interesting as it keeps you guessing.

Episode 3

Just to start off, I want to mention that my video file was extremely corrupted so I had trouble to understand the whole episode. Though, I tried to understand it through the glitches. Also a more interesting thing that I would like to mention is that as I was writing this review and listening to music, I came across the song “The Garden” by Mirah and became instantly inspired to use it with this series. It is either going to be a trailer like video or an actual AMV. I’m going to decide more on that later though. .Oh, and since it was said here first, if I see anyone try to copy my idea anywhere else over the internet, I will find out and you will regret it! So back to the actual episode at hand, which didn’t have much happen in it. Maria was surprisingly cool at least, she did the classic evil laugh that we’ve all grown so found of in series such as this! I’m glad that they dramatically changed her character from the first episode because at least now I want to strangle her less.

Although, after watching the opening, and seeing her in it standing in some Halloween like setting, her body looks so much older! It just seemed disturbing to see! In terms of the mountain amount of dialogue, this time around I would think you would need to keep in mind that suspicion points to someone who knows the island well and Beatrice supposedly doesn’t have a body. As for the person who died, it was someone who is in-formerly known as Eva, which leaves us with a total of 7 dead people in 3 years. I don’t see how this series can be very long since we only have 11 characters still alive. So, who do you think will die next on Harper’s Island Umineko no Naku Koro ni?

No picture spam until episode 2!

Not bad for a first episode. To be honest, if I wasn’t totally hyped for this series, I may have thought this was a bit boring, but i did get more interesting as the series went on. I am expecting another Higurashi no Naku Koro ni with this series, which I don’t think is all that bad of me. Ya, perhaps I will start comparing them at every chance I get, but it’s only cause I can! I mean, we’ve already seen some creepy eye scenes and creepy children staring off at a distance mumbling freaky things to themselves as well as the whole title thing, except in this case, rather than Cicadas its Seagulls. I’m not in to the whole symbolism behind seagulls though because cicadas just seems more intense and disturbing; hearing annoying seagulls (or lack there of perhaps) just doesn’t produce the same effect for me.

Anywho, in this episode we were introduced to every single character in the series, which was a lot to handle, but at least it’s out of the way now. Except, I don’t think I was able to remember at least have of the names that were being said…I did like the way they were each presented though, with the snapshot and then name, I thought that was pretty clever. Some of the names that I do remember are firstly, our main character Battler, who is a bit of a pervert seems interesting enough. There’s all the extremely cold “butler” named Kanon, not quite sure how he keeps her job, but I guess it must be difficult to find butlers that will stay on an isolated island with you. It’s also quite a shock just to think he is a he! Jessica seems to be the only light in the dark story, which is a nice touch to the bunch. I’m really excited for Beatrice to finally really “appear” in the series, I’m curious to find out how they’ll handle her character in terms of interacting and just being part of the story. And last and perhaps least, there is Maria who is Extremely annoying as many have mentioned and whenever I try to think of anything about her I just hear her cries of Uuuu. I guess we’re all hoping she’ll be the first to die (as morbid as that sounds), but somehow I think we all doubt it will actually happen.

I’m pretty sure everyone basically knows that the series will revolve around murders, so I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler if I mention it, if it was I’m sorry. Personally, I’m excited for the action to start finally, I hope it turns out to be a bit like Harper’s Island with a nowhere near normal plot hopefully. The opening and ending were really cool, the songs were kind of annoying, but the rhythm sort of got stuck in my head, which is a good thing. Well, I’m pretty sure this will be one of the series I will blog as it does have a lot of potential as well as a lot of hype. I’m excited to see how this series fairs out…
