Otaku My Weekend at Otakuthon 2012

Images in this post are thanks to my hipstamatic-cam-loving-sister, Justine! No Hotlinking!

As I write this, I have just come to the realization that this was my fifth year at Otakuthon, and as per usual I bought way more than I should! Nonetheless, this still managed to be the first year at the convention that I went to the Masquerade. My full coverage is after the jump!  Read the rest of this entry »

Otakuthon 2011 – THE LOOT!

Posted by on Tuesday, 16 August, 2011

I mentioned it on Twitter a million times, but I was at the Otakuthon this weekend! I actually went to a bunch of panels and have a lot to say about each one. I also will talk about all the cosplay and how I hope next year a certain anime doesn’t take up the majority of the con, but for now, I’m going to start by dealing with the easy post. All the things I bought!

As per usual, walking into a dealer’s room instantly makes my heart flutter with happiness. It was in a different location this year to be even bigger, but I think the size mostly only increased with the artist section. Anyway, there was still a lot to buy, which is exactly what I did. Check it out after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Anime Mission 2.0 and Other Summer Updates

This time last summer I  was in an anime funk. I was enjoying anime here and there, but I was slowly losing my grasp on that world. Luckily, I got myself out of that and came back with new strategies to keep me going, which might even make for a good post….Anyway, I had a revival and this year I’m truly going to complete my summer mission I couldn’t finish last year because of the circumstances by Tackling My Currently Watching List!!

curanime Summer Anime Mission 2.0 and Other Summer UpdatesThose who have been around my blog since last year will recognize this anime list that consists of 41 currently watching anime series. Throughout the year, I managed to make my way through a few series to make room for new anime and such, but rather than just a few this summer, I’m hopping to complete dozens! I have high hopes as I have even managed to find a few of these titles on Netflix, which will be convenient.

I made a list on all the summer anime titles I would like to see and I was surprised to see how many I put down. The summer anime season really doesn’t look as bad as usual. Not too much to praise still, but some good stuff. I know I’m pretty excited for a third season of Natsume Yuujinchou! I also have a few anime series from this season that will get carried on in the next, so I’m definitely going to at least have a few titles to watch.

I also planned some other less anime centric summer missions. This includes watching every movie on the IMDB Top 250! I have watched only 93 so far, but I have hope. I also created a list of all the entertaining but lame summer blockbusters that I’m going to check out each week, which should be a lot of fun.

I am also on the hunt for the next great live action tv show! Every vacation I’ve had, I managed to find something new that I loved. Last summer it was Breaking Bad, winter break was Doctor Who and Spring Break was Community. I feel I’ve seen everything out there at this point, but I’m still going to try my best to find that new great show!

As for some events that I’ll be going to…the Otakuthon comes to mind. It’s going to be my fourth year going and I’ll be sure to blog about it quicker than I did last year. It’s always so much fun to go and maybe I’ll see some bloggers like myself. I’m a tad doubtful, but saimaisama used to go too!

If you’re a fan of anime, there really is no better thing than going to an event filled with tons of people who share the same passion as you do. This year they’re promising a dealer’s room twice the size from last year, which means I’ll be buying twice as much with money I don’t have! woot!

montreal comiccon Summer Anime Mission 2.0 and Other Summer UpdatesThis is also going to be the first year I visit a different convention, in this case as you can read, the Montreal Comiccon. Of course I would love to be visiting the San Diego Comiccon, which continues to be a dream of mine, but I’ll settle with this one.

Some of the guests that are going to be there include Stan Lee, James Marsters (YAY!) and even Vic Mignogna. Those few alone have got me pretty excited! I think it would also be interesting to make a blog post on this event to contrast with the Otakuthon. So if all goes well, I’ll be going to this convention as well, but if I can only choose one due to money, Otakuthon will come first.

I have a pretty clear plan on what I would like to do and accomplish this summer. I also have a few plans where I’ll just be enjoying the summer weather, which in Canada is very limited. I also might be seeing Craig Ferguson live, which is absolutely awesome, but that is not anywhere near definite yet. I might see a film or two during Fantasia, which is an international film festival that even has some anime movies here and there.

This is definitely going to be a nerdy summer ahead for me, but I write at an anime blog so what else would anyone really expect? My schooling is actually not done yet. I still have a bit less than two weeks left, but this is just that one last dark tunnel before a bright light. As you can tell, I have plenty to look forward to, which makes for some good motivation to keep me going.

As always, I am genuinely curious on what all of your plans are – so do share in the comments section! Anything awesome?

Otakuthon ’10 – Day 3

2010 wallpaper03 1680x1050 1024x640 Otakuthon 10 Day 3

And so I finally finish my Otakuthon review…

Considering I had such hope for myself to be able to release all my posts about the Otakuthon the day of, I’m a bit disappointed with myself  that it took so long for me to finally finish this three day convention posts off. I tried, but just not hard enough. There will always be next year I guess.

So Day 3 was a short day for me because I ended up all alone. Some advice to anybody who has not been to a convention before is that it’s really not as fun if you don’t have a friend by your side, unless you like to be alone all the time then do as you please. Anyway because of all that, I actually don’t have much to say about this day. Read the rest of this entry »
