That the scifi aspects are there to just further the relationships of the characters. I do feel it applies to Hyouka as well for sure. The character chemistry between the four of them was, in my opinion, Beautiful. To me, I felt that the mysteries are meant to help develop the characters long the way and of course, bring out Hountarou's mystery solving skills. Still, it's yet another entertaining experience from Kyoto Animation and hopefully they won't disappoint us on the next show they are working on. Yeah, the mysteries were simple, but the characters in Hyouka is what made that show very entertaining to watch. I also like the contrasting outlooks between the characters. Satoshi is a pretty controversial character indeed, and both him and Houtarou have so much depth you can indeed write several character analysis about them.
