Occult Academy ~First Impression~

I was sort of interested by this show when I first heard of it. I like the whole idea of it being both a comedy and a horror and I find that the mixture of the two actually did work well. As I was watching this, I couldn’t help but think that this series reminds me of Scooby Doo at times…minus the Great Dane. I see the similarities because we have these characters who are trying to solve the problem about some unknown creature. There was even a classic Velma moment of “Where are my glasses?”.
As a piece of advice, even if when you lose your glasses you might as well be blind, when you just finish witnessing a giant fat thing with murderous intentions and you hear everyone running, you should run too! I hope this is a lesson that tv characters will eventually learn.
Anyway, I wasn’t too impressed by the show in the long run. It had some moments that were interesting, but other moments that were dull. Basically, any scene that didn’t involve the main character, Maya, actually speaking were not very entertaining for me. With that said, I really do enjoy Maya as a main character. She seems to have a lot of dimensions to her personality that keeps me interested in seeing in future episodes. As long as the focus on Maya never switches, then this might turn out to be a good series.
Aside from Maya, I guess there are some other things that show promise for this series. Such as the end, which was definitely both weird and intriguing. I can’t help but wonder what will come of a naked man falling from the sky! I guess with that said, Occult Academy is a show worth trying out.
