Cencoroll and Yumedamaya Kidan ~Reviews~
I decided to make two mini reviews in one post because today I decided to watch both of these short animes and I want to be able to write about them as they are fresh in my memory. Anyway….

Cencoroll
Rating: 7.4/10
To put it simply, the only real problem with this short movie is that it was too short. By that, I do not mean that this was a perfect piece, but rather that because of how short it was we weren’t really able to understand everything and it probably would have been better if we learned more about these giant blob things that were in the plot and why certain people are able to control them. It was a weird story at that, but I really enjoyed it and while I was watching this I could not help but think that this would work really well as an actual series or at least a long film.
The art was probably the best part as well as the villain of the story who was just pretty cool, but all the characters were pretty interesting…Seeing as this was released this year I am surprised it did not get that much buzz about it. It may not be the best thing out there, but it is definitely worth the watch and at 25 minutes long, I do not think it would be that difficult to find the time to watch. To sum this up, Cencoroll is a good way to be entertained for a short while by cool characters and giant blob monsters.

Yumedamaya Kidan
Rating: 7.0/10
The first time I heard about this anime was a long time ago in an old NewType magazine. From what I remember, it is an anime that was made because the creator of the story and designs won a contest that would get their idea on screen. The first time I read about this story, which is about a young girl who thanks to a creepy looking crazy guy who calls himself Kotaro the Dreamball Dealer, is able to explore a dream world created form her desires. It is a very interesting story and this whole anime has really been lost in the realms of the anime world.
Just as Cencoroll, this one has not got much attention, except Yumedamaya Kidan has definitely gotten even less in terms of popularity. At times the plot seemed a bit predicable, but in the long run the story managed to get into a lot of depth while delivering an interesting story within 25 minutes. This is worth the watch simply because it is something very original and I am pretty sure it should not be too difficult to find this anime raw or subbed if you have good resources.

If Cencoroll was popular enough, I’d agree that it should be extended into something longer. But I found out it was a one-shot beforehand so when I finally got around to watching it, it’s already settled in my mind that there won’t be more after it ended even if I wanted more.
But I think its shortness is what makes it so great. Or rather, I prefer it this way cuz it seems that the author just wanted to show you a peek of this world he thought up and letting the audience muse on the rest. Some things are just meant to be short and unexplained and Cencoroll seems to fit into that category.
And yea, the artwork is probably better than some regular broadcasting anime out there. And this was all done by one man. o.O; Impressive.

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll definitely check out Cencoroll. How did you managed to find Yumedamaya Kidan?! Even my “resourcefulness” wasn’t able to turn up anything.
BTW, I don’t think I have you on my msn! Drop me an email of it, and I’ll add you in!

@Xiao: I see what you mean and I like the idea that you just get a glimpse of a world, but at the same time it sort of has an unsatisfying taste to me. I did like Cencoroll and even with its length, it is obviously still successful, but it just could have been better for me if it were longer. Though, as you mentioned with one guy behind it all, it becomes a much more difficult task….
@radiant: If you can’t find Yumedamaya Kidan, maybe you should try looking for it under its English name if you haven’t already, which is “The Strange Tale of the Dreamball Dealer”. If you still don’t have any luck, give me a shout and I’ll help you out. I’ll be sure to drop you an email as soon as I can, but I’m not really on msn too often…

@Radiant: I just realized that I don’t think I know your email address. Should I send it to “info@radiantdreamer.net” or is there some other secret email address you have?

Just finished cencoroll.
I’ll have to agree with Xiao about how leaving an open end lets the imagination runs wild. That and also the endless amount of possibilities that the good points of cencoroll might get lost if turned into a longer series. I guess the K.I.S.S really applied here and was applied oh-so-well… Xp
Also.. Love the ending theme. Love and Roll by supercell. Just makes my head bounce. Lol…
