Letter Bee ~First Impression~

My first thought about this series the moment it started was that this “bee symbol” that they have on their hats and such, do not look like bees, but more like wasps. I am no expert on bees or wasps for that matter, but in terms of body shape, the separation between the two parts of a body, can be seen easily with a wasp and is much more noticeable than that of a bee. For a bee that was a honey bee for say, it would be hard to see the two halves of its body because it is all furry and such. So in my opinion, the letter bee’s symbol is a bit deceiving, but it is not really something worth complaining I guess. On another note, it is so beautifully smexy to hear , Jun Fukuyama’s voice in a series again. Actually before I watched this episode I forgot to check for the voice actors, so hearing his voice was a wonderful surprise! Anyway, his character is my favourite so far, not that there is many to choose from and I am completely biased anyway, but his character is just so attractive and very cool. He can kill more than a dozen CG bugs, but at the same time be really funny and sweet.
Speaking of CG bugs, it was one of the things in terms of animation that I did not particularly like. I was never too fond of CG stuff in animes anyway, unless it can blend in super well, but in the series it worked and it didn’t. At times it seemed somewhat natural in terms of blending in with the normal animation, but at other times it sort of stood out like a sore thumb. The constant snowflakes were also a bit distracting. They could just make it look like normal snow can’t they? Or at least, have it be smaller snowflakes, but this is once again just a general observation I am making that is not something that bothers me too much, like the “wasp” thing. I do like the skies in this series at least and the character design is very pretty!
Anyway, in terms of story, we already got a lot in the first episode in terms of backstory at least. Lag is a very cute kid, who has lost his mom to some evil people. At the moment it pretty much is just a matter of time before he also becomes one of the letter bee, I know this because its the main plot, but in this episode nothing of that sort is happening and instead Noir is just supposed to deliver him to a certain person. I kind of do see where this series is going and it might just become boring sadly…Obviously I cannot base this off much, but it really depends with what they decide to do with this series. With that said, I can’t really be one hundred percent sure this is going to be something I blog, but I’ll wait and see for the next episode.

Ah, you’re right about the wasp and the bee part. I totally forgot about that till you mentioned it but bees are fatter, aren’t they? ^^;
On the CG, I didn’t pay much attention to them as I did the characters and what else was going on. I do find them pretty, though. The snow, that is. But can we even call it that since it doesn’t stick? o.o?
Well, minor details like you said.
I can’t really predict what would happen either. Especially since there is not that much information available even though there are several manga volumes out already but it’s probably better not knowing just in case the adaptation goes horribly wrong somewhere. Ack, now I’m hoping someone will pick it up and scanlate it now. :3
@Xiao: Bees are also fatter I would think compared to wasps, which would also contradict the symbol as well…The snowflakes are pretty and even if they don’t really do anything to the scenery I would still consider it snow.
So the manga has even be scalated? I bet it will be soon though with the anime out and such. I usually like to read the manga before I see the anime myself unless I know that they are like completely different from each other on purpose.
Bees…I think you guys are thinking about honeybees and bumblebees. If anything, the insignia bears a close resemblance to killer bees. Yea…it has to be bees, not wasps since Letter Bee is a play on ‘Letter B.’
7´s last blog ..Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza – First Impressions
@7: Well I am aware of the the Letter Bee play on words of course, which is why it would be ironic if it looked more like a wasp. Looking up pictures of killer bees, I do see the resemblance now, I find it weird how you know how a killer bee looks x)
*Bees. my god*
I think it’s going to get better later on. Based on the OAC anyways.
@warriorhope: Well that makes me excited. I hope it doesn’t take too long to start getting really good though
haha I also thought that does not look like a bee at all
I enjoyed the magical world setting on the series
@Kitsune: I guess we’re on the same boat
The setting was really beautiful, as mentioned, the skies just had such a nice look to them!
